Decorative trim is beautiful right up until it starts rotting. 😅

The problem with scrollwork and detailed profiles is that all those curves and crevices are perfect at collecting water. Over time, that moisture adds up and rot sets in. But here's the thing: the detail work doesn't have to go.

In the full-length video on YouTube, we show how to restore this rotted decorative trim profile back to its original shape using WEST SYSTEM Wood Rot Repair Epoxy. With some basic prep and a fill coat mixed with 407 Low-Density Filler, you can sculpt the damaged area back to match the surrounding detail.

No replacement piece. No custom millwork order. Just a solid repair done in place.

Your surface looks clean. But is it? 🤔

Surface contamination is one of the most common causes of epoxy adhesion failure, and it's especially tricky because most of it is invisible.

Skin oils, mold release wax, silicone from the wrong rag, and even your compressed air line are some of the leading causes of epoxy adhesion failure. And sometimes, the cleaning process itself is the culprit.

If you've ever had an epoxy repair fail and couldn't figure out why, this article is worth your time.

🧼 Strong bonds start with clean surfaces.

Before bonding the new stringer:
✔️ Clean with a degreaser to remove oil & grease
✔️ Wipe until the towel comes up clean
✔️ Follow with acetone or lacquer thinner in bilges & engine areas
⚠️ Always clean before grinding (don’t grind contaminants in!)

In this video, we walk through two real wood rot repairs: a rotted gable trim and a worn-down post end, both repaired using our Wood Rot Repair Kit and 407 Low-Density Filler.

This same technique works on fascia, exterior trim, posts, decorative wood... basically anything that's rotted but still has good bones.

Rotted wooden trim? 😬

Don't sweat it. Rotted wood doesn't have to mean full-on replacement.

We took a split and rotted section of gable trim and brought it back to its original shape using WEST SYSTEM Wood Rot Repair Epoxy. Neat epoxy goes in first to saturate the fibers, then a thickened batch using 407 Low-Density Filler sculpts it back into profile.
